About Ready. Seady. Hike!

From Couch to Summit: One Girl’s Unexpected Journey

I’ll be honest—I used to be the person who chose Netflix over nature every single time.

Growing up, I was convinced that outdoor activities weren’t for me. While my friends went camping and hiking, I stayed inside where it was comfortable, climate-controlled, and bug-free. The outdoors felt intimidating, uncomfortable, and frankly, pointless. Why walk for hours when you could just drive?

But life has a funny way of changing your perspective.

A few years ago, during a particularly stressful period, a friend gently suggested we take a walk around the neighborhood. Nothing serious—just a 20-minute loop to clear my head. Reluctantly, I agreed. Those 20 minutes turned into the first deep breath I’d taken in weeks. Something about moving my body, feeling the fresh air, and stepping away from my screen made everything feel a little more manageable.

That walk became a daily habit. Then those neighborhood loops stretched a bit longer. I started noticing parks I’d driven past a hundred times but never explored. One Saturday, I ventured onto an actual trail—just a short, flat path through the woods. It wasn’t glamorous, but I felt something shift. A sense of peace. Accomplishment. Curiosity about what might be around the next bend.

Fast forward to today, and that girl who hated being outdoors? She’s summited mountains, backpacked through wilderness, and discovered that hiking isn’t about being naturally outdoorsy—it’s about showing up, one step at a time.

Why Ready. Steady. Hike! Exists
